Gaynor Kilmister Appointed new Principal of Primary for Infant Junior School and Camp Education

The Falkland Islands Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Gaynor Kilmister as the new Principal of Primary for the Infant Junior School and Camp Education.  Mrs Kilmister arrived in the Islands recently and will take up her new post this week, having first completed quarantine.

Gaynor has worked in education for over 23 years, starting as a support assistant for children with additional physical and learning needs. She has extensive experience as an education senior leader and her last role was headteacher of a large primary school in her home city of Bradford.

Commenting on the announcement, Gaynor said: “I am very excited to be moving to the Falkland Islands and see this as a rare, unique and once-in-a-lifetime experience. I am looking forward to becoming an integral part of the community and to running a supportive and nurturing school that we are all proud to be a part of. I can’t wait to meet everyone.”

Executive Head, Karen Steen, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Mrs Kilmister to the Islands who brings with her, not only a wealth of experience and expertise at a senior level, but also a great deal of enthusiasm for the role. In the first few weeks she will be focused on meeting as many people as possible and also planning for Camp Education visits, taking time to get acquainted with parents, pupils and colleagues from across the education directorate and wider community.”

“We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to outgoing Principal, Mrs Milston, who will be retiring at the end of the year. She has provided years of dedicated service to our young people, as well as to her staff and parents. Fortunately, Mrs Milston is not leaving the Islands, having bought a home here, and will continue to be involved in the school, so we will still see her from time to time.”
