Contract agreed for new fisheries patrol vessel
The Falkland Islands Government is pleased to announcement signing of a contract with Seagull Maritime Limited for the provision of a new fishery patrol service from 2023 for a period of 15 years.
The tender process saw a total of 13 bids made in stage one, these were then shortlisted to 4. The successful bid from Seagull Maritime Ltd marks a significant change in the style of patrol vessel bringing a more modern vessel to our Islands and provides good value for FIG. The Daman Stan Patrol 5009 model, is a smaller faster coast guard style vessel that meets the criteria required for operational service by the Natural Resources department.
Speaking of the contract award, Director of Natural Resources, Dr Andrea Clausen, said: “I am delighted to see this contract signed after almost a year of detailed tender and contract discussions. I would also like to thank those people who provided expert advice and support throughout the process. Finally, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to RBC and Galfishing Limited for their service provision over the past 13 years and wish them the very best for the future.”
Mr Kfir Magen, company owner of Seagull Maritime Ltd added: “Seagull Maritime Ltd is delighted to have been selected to provide the Falkland Islands fisheries patrol ship for the next 15 years and we are immensely looking forward to building a long-term partnership with the Directorate of Natural Resources, the Falkland Islands Government and, most importantly, the people of the Falkland Islands whom we will serve. We are procuring a brand new Fast Patrol Vessel that is purpose-built for these kinds of operations. We cannot wait to get started on this exciting project; protecting the planet’s natural resources for future generations is beholden on us all.”
Portfolio holder for Natural Resources, MLA Teslyn Barkman said: “It was important that we agreed a contract with a company who has the knowledge and understanding of what we need in a new fisheries patrol vessel. It was fantastic to have so many bids for this contract, but Seagull Maritime Ltd really stood out in what they could offer us.”
