Update on Tussac House – Important milestone achieved

Last week the Tussac House project reached an important milestone in its construction, the west wing, Shearwater is now successfully watertight. In reaching this milestone it greatly reduces weather-related delays to the projects and marks part of the completion of phase one.

On 30 March 2022, phase one began, which focuses on the construction of the west wing, Shearwater. Shearwater will consist of ten self-contained units – eight with one bedroom and two with two bedrooms – as well as a breakout area and various utility rooms. It is estimated that the construction of this wing will be ready for commissioning during December this year.

Construction of phase two or the central core of the building began on Monday 5 September 2022 with water tightness aiming to be completed in the week beginning Monday 13 February 2023.

MLA John Birmingham, Portfolio Lead for Health, said: “This is a substantial milestone for the development of Tussac House. With phase one completed we are well on our way to opening the doors to this very special building in 2024. My thanks must go to everyone involved, especially the construction team for their hard work on this project and I look forward to the next milestone that is completed.”
