Text of letter from Hon. Cyril Gunnell, Speaker of the St Helena Legislative Council, to Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons

Dear Mr Speaker,

On behalf of the St Helena Legislative Council, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We express our heartfelt condolences to you, Mr Speaker, and to the Parliament of the United Kingdom, for the great loss of our beloved monarch.

As proud members of the British family, we feel a strong connection to The Queen. Her loss will be keenly felt throughout St Helena and by members of our Legislative Council. The St Helena community remember with enormous fondness when HM The Queen visited St Helena as a Princess, alongside her father King George VI, in 1947.

We send our deepest condolences to you and to all Members of the House of Commons at this time.

Yours sincerely, Hon. Cyril Gunnell Speaker of the St Helena Legislative Council
