The Governor, His Excellency Nigel Phillips CBE, had a busy schedule during his recent visit to Tristan da Cunha with his wife Emma. They arrived on Monday 20th March 2023 on the MFV Edinburgh, and on Tuesday 21st March, the Governor held a reception for the whole island community in Prince Philip Hall. He addressed the assembled islanders, and James Glass, Chief Islander, and Acting Administrator, presented him with a model longboat on behalf of the community, made by Brian Rogers.

During the reception, he also handed out certificates to a group of islanders who had successfully completed a gas instruction course taught on the island by Phillip Mansell (whose wife Desi is Tristanian). The certificates certify them to work on gas appliances in the UK.

Apart from hosting his reception, the Governor witnessed the swearing-in of a new Acting Administrator, Lorraine Repetto (reported elsewhere), and visited the island’s churches.

The Governor’s visit was timed to coincide with a visit by the cruise ship National Geographic Explorer. He joined the ship on the 22nd March for the next leg of her cruise for the voyage home to St Helena.
