Tribute and Reflection in remembering the 1st Anniversary of the reburial of the Liberated Africans.

The local community is invited to participate in a Tribute and Reflection in remembering the 1st Anniversary of the reburial of the Liberated Africans.

Sunday 20th August, between 10am – 3:00pm, Liberated African Cemetery, Rupert’s Valley.

The Liberated African Advisory Committee (LAAC) & St Helena National Trust have been working closely with our Island’s youth on creating a special tribute, that will be laid on the day.

325 pebble stones were collected from Rupert’s beach, to represent the 325 individuals that were reburied in August 2022. Rupert’s beach holds a strong connection to all buried in the Valley, as this was the major landing spot and highly likely would have been a pebble stone beach at that time.

Stones symbolise endurance, stability and permeance, representing the ability to be grounded and connected with the Earth.

You are most welcome to place a stone on the gravesite as an act of tribute and reflection.

Floral tributes are also most welcome.

Also, on the day;

If considering walking into Rupert’s a Group walk via Mundens will leave the canister at 10:00am, led by Matt Joshua.
