ST HELENA BIDS ADIEU TO MIKE OLSSON

Mike Olsson, who founded both the St Helena Independent and Saint FM has died on Wednesday 13^th November after a recurring illness.

 

Mike will be remembered for establishing the Independent, a local newspaper in 2005.  The same year, he further went on to found Saint FM, a local radio station.  Money for both projects was bequeathed by Johnny Drummond, who edited St Helena News until his death in 2004. Lord (Michael) Ashcroft later became a significant benefactor for Saint FM, other funds came from St Helena Government through annual grants.

 

News of his death will bring sadness to many who appreciated his pioneering form of journalism.
