SARAH LURCOCK AWARDED 2025 POLAR MEDAL
By J Brock (FINN)
Mrs Sarah Lurcock, BSc, who presented on FIBS (now Falklands Radio) in the late 1980s and early 90s has been awarded the 2025 Polar medal by H.M. the King for outstanding achievements while working over extended periods the harsh climate of South Georgia. She was Director of the South Georgia Heritage Trust as well as assisting with Scientific projects, working at the Museum and heading up the South Georgia Post office, while husband, Pat, was Director of Fisheries on the South Atlantic Island.
As one of just 30 people, and one of the first women allowed to live and work there, she and Pat called South Georgia home for 25 years. Pat retired from the South Georgia Fisheries Department in 2017, but Sarah continued to work on the Island while Pat accompanied tourists to South Georgia while working aboard polar based expedition vessels.
Congratulations Sarah for a job well done.
