FIG response to ongoing Royal Falkland Islands Police investigation

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has been informed by the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) about an ongoing police investigation.  The Government will provide RFIP with any assistance they require in this matter.

We are aware of reports circulating in the community and can confirm that the investigation does include activity involving the Leisure Centre. In response to the RFIP investigation, FIG took immediate action, and we do not believe that there are any ongoing risks to Leisure Centre staff or the public.

It is understood that RFIP will be contacting individuals who may be directly affected by this matter as soon as they are able to do so.

The safety and confidence of people accessing the services at the Leisure Centre remains a priority for FIG. It would be inappropriate for FIG to comment further on the investigation until the RFIP have concluded their work, and any subsequent legal proceedings are resolved.

FIG notes and reminds all concerned that a criminal investigation is now active and this could result in criminal proceedings.  It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice the investigation or any subsequent proceedings.
