COUNCILLOR GILLIAN BROOKS ATTENDS

COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION EVENT

Councillor Gillian Brooks departed the island on Saturday 29 March to represent St Helena at the CPA Small Branches Workshop entitled “Strong and Independent Parliaments in Small Jurisdictions” taking place in Douglas, Isle Of Man, from 1-3 April 2025. The CPA Small Branches Network is dedicated to supporting smaller parliaments in addressing their unique challenges. This event is funded by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Headquarters Secretariat.

Councillor Brooks is scheduled to return to the island on Saturday 26 April, after a period of personal leave in Johannesburg and will remain contactable during this period via her usual email councillor.gbrooks@helanta.co.sh.

Whilst away Councillor Corinda Essex has kindly agreed to cover the Jamestown District Area, contactable via email cs.essex@helanta.co.sh.

The Hon Cyril Gunnell, President of the local CPA Branch said:

The agenda for this small jurisdictions workshop programme looks very interesting. Separation of Powers, in particular, arouses curiosity, and relevant information that Councillor Brooks can report back from representatives of other small parliaments as we strive to implement this CPA Benchmark in St Helena, will be most welcomed.
