Port Replacement Project Contracts Approval Given

At a meeting held this week, Executive Council approved in principle that the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) enter into contracts for the fabrication, delivery and installation of a new facility to replace the existing Falklands Interim Port and Storage Solution (FIPASS), and the decommissioning of the existing facility.

In addition, FIG has also approved in principle entering into contract for the delivery of a new access road and causeway as part of the overall port replacement project.

Officers have been authorised to complete negotiations and finalise contract terms. Due to the commercial sensitivities of this process further details will be released following successful signing of all contracts related to the port replacement project.

FIG remains committed to the timely completion of the port replacement project, with the original timeline for the replacement barges, causeway, and access road remaining on track for delivery by the end of 2027.

Portfolio Holder for Development and Commercial Services, MLA Mark Pollard said: “Following some testing times and challenges faced by this project, including throughout several tender processes, and due to world events, I am delighted to be able to confirm that this much awaited and vital project, which is so important to the future of our economic activity, is now firmly on the pathway to being delivered.”
