FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT
PRESS STATEMENT
18 August 2025
Public consultation launched on a potential cafe development on Stanley Common
The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has launched a public consultation to seek views on a private proposal to develop a café on part of Stanley Common, in the Yorke Bay area.
The potential café development would require a long-term lease or lease/purchase of approximately 1,000m² of Stanley Common land.
To allow for the lease or sale of land on Stanley Common, the Stanley Common Ordinance would need to be changed. Before any decision is taken, the Falkland Islands Government is seeking the community’s views on both the potential development and the associated loss of Common land.
Members of the public are encouraged to share their views by completing the online survey. A public drop-in session will also be held at the Harbourlights Conference Room, Malvina House Hotel, Stanley, on Thursday 28 August, from 12pm to 6pm.
To take part in the consultation, please complete the online survey here:

The consultation will remain open until Sunday 14 September 2025. All feedback received will be considered before a final recommendation is submitted to Executive Council.
