Dental Services Update

Further to recent updates relating to reduced capacity in the dental service, the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) is pleased to advise that the dental service is now operating at expected levels of service availability.

We would like to apologise to any patients affected by recent disruption in appointment availability.

Executive Council considered this week a paper in relation to how capacity in the orthodontic service is managed. The updated policy takes into consideration the complexity of each patient’s treatment plan, and the likely clinic time required. As there is a fixed amount of clinic time available for the orthodontic service on a weekly basis, this allows for capacity in the service to be better planned for, rather than trying to manage a fixed number of patients who may be of varying complexity as per the previous policy.

Since its inception, the orthodontic service has now delivered start to finish treatment entirely in the Islands for 23 patients meeting the eligibility requirements. Additional patients have also started treatment in the Islands and have had it completed overseas. More patients are expected to complete their treatment soon.
