Falklands 40 Marked in Stanley City

A day of remembrance and celebration was held in Stanley on 14 June 2022. Honouring the 252 servicemen and 3 civilians that died in the conflict began at Christ Church Cathedral with a Thanksgiving Service beginning at 0930hrs.
HE the Governor Mr Nigel Philips and Mrs Philips, Commander British Forces South Atlantic, Members of Legislative Assembly, FIG, the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Airforce were in attendance. They were joined by the FI Defence Force, Members of the Merchant Navy, 1982 Veterans, Youth Groups and local Residents.
After the service concluded, the congregation joined other residents at the 1982 Memorial on Ross Road. After a brief wait, HE the Governor and adjutant, as well as CBFSAI and his staff joined the parade on foot.
After prayers HE the Governor, the Hon Pete Biggs MlLA, Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, FIG Guests, Armed Services and Veterans Associations, and others laid wreaths at the foot of the Monument.
After the Parade there were two receptions hosted by FIG. An excellent gathering at the Malvina House Hotel featured hot food and a quiet atmosphere. Meanwhile, in the City Hall, a larger, happier reception was attended by many who took part in the parade as well as those who watched it. There were speeches by HE the Governor Mr Nigel Phillips, who read out the Letters Patient from HM the queen, making Stanley a city.
