The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, is currently in London attending a key meeting of the Joint Ministerial Council.

The JMC is the highest political body for dialogue and consultation between the UK Government and the Overseas Territories.

Ahead of the JMC, the Political Council of the Overseas Territories Association met to discuss common challenges and shared interests among the territories.

Formal discussions with the UK have now begun, focusing on pressing political matters, environmental issues, and climate change.

The Overseas Territories play a crucial role in global conservation, protecting 94% of unique British biodiversity.

The Chief Minister also attended a dinner at 1 Carlton Gardens, the London residence of the Foreign Secretary.

The event was hosted by the Minister for the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty, who also oversees Europe and Gibraltar.

Mr Picardo welcomed the UK’s continued support for the Overseas Territories’ right to self-determination, a stance reaffirmed by Minister Doughty.

Accompanying Mr Picardo in London are Minister for the Environment John Cortes, and Chief Secretary, Glendon Martinez.

The Chief Minister is expected to return to Gibraltar on Friday. In his absence, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Garcia will assume his responsibilities.
