Completion of Tuss0ck House

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) is pleased to announce that the construction of Tussock House has been completed, and the building has officially been handed over to FIG. Construction was completed by RSK Falklands Ltd on Friday 3 January 2025, followed by assessments by Planning and Building Services and the Fire and Rescue Service, granting occupancy today, Thursday 9 January 2025.

MLA John Birmingham, Portfolio Lead for Health & Social Services, said: “The completion of Tussac House is a significant step forward in our provision of care and support for the most vulnerable members of our community. Tussac House reflects our commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to the care and support they need, in a setting that is both modern and welcoming”.

The facility has now been handed over to the Health and Social Service Department. Preparations are underway to ready Tussac House for the delivery of services. Leigh Reid, Head of Care Services, and his team are working to prepare the facility, set up staff on site, and ensure the rooms are fully equipped for the first residents.

John Woollacott, Director of Health and Social Services, said: “Tussac House will be an exceptional facility for the Falkland Islands, which will allow us to further develop and improve the services we offer in relation to adult care services. Over the coming weeks our Community Support Team will start to move into the building, and once everything is set up this will be closely followed by our first residents, who we hope to have in by the end of the month. I hope that staff, residents and visitors alike will take great pride in this new facility, which has been designed and built to high standards, and is truly something that the Falkland Islands can be proud of. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the long journey to get us to this milestone; the design and build of Tussac House, as well as the continued operation, have all been and will continue to be a true team effort”.
