Governors uniform consultation

On the 9th of April Gilbert House launched an online survey in order to gather views as to whether the next Governor of the Falkland Islands should continue to use a ceremonial uniform.

The survey laid out some of the arguments for and against and also the cost of the uniform.

As well as the online survey, people were encouraged to contact their MLAs with their views or call and register their view with Gilbert House.

The online survey has now closed and these were the results:

Total responses – 495

56.6 % voted in favour of keeping the uniform,

40.8% were against

2.6% were ambivalent.

During the time that the survey was running it was regularly monitored and we observed swings of around 2 percentage points one way and the other throughout.

MLAs discussed the results on Monday and agreed that the next Governor should be supplied with a ceremonial uniform and this information has now been relayed to relevant parties.

We wish to thank everyone who participated in the online survey and also those who called or e-mailed with their views.
