Falkland Islands Community School Celebrates Excellent GCSE Results

The Falkland Islands Community School (FICS) is delighted to celebrate the success of our 2025 Year 11 cohort, who have achieved an excellent set of GCSE results. This year group are the largest cohort to progress through the school, and a significant number of them will go on to college or apprenticeships.

Early analysis shows exceptional rises in Maths and Science, with 80% of students achieving grade 4 (pass) or a higher grade in Maths, up from 65% last year. In Science, there are notable increases in performance across each of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Combined Science. A full analysis of the results will be available for the Education Board meeting in September.

The average grade per entry for all pupils is 4.82, a significant increase on last year’s results. Moreover, the progress of this cohort is outstanding, with students achieving on average +0.96 grades higher in English than their KS2 SATs predicted, and +1.03 grades higher in Maths.

Other notable successes were seen in:

  • English Literature, 60% of students received a grade 5 or higher
  • Spanish, which continues to attain exceptional results, with an average grade this year of 6.7
  • History, the percentage of students getting grade 5 or higher has doubled from last year
  • Music, 75% of students achieved an A grade
  • Biology, Chemistry, and Physics which each have an average grade of 5+

Principal of FICS, Amy Marsh, praised the students and staff, saying, “Congratulations to our students for these excellent results. Staff at the Falkland Islands Community School provided a significant number of additional sessions and support for this cohort throughout Years 10 and 11, and the students took advantage of these opportunities to work towards higher grades. We are thankful for the support of their families and recognise the hard work of the students to achieve these excellent results”.
